My Family Likes This – Eco Friendly Yoga Mat Critique

It is very thick, which makes it much more comfortable than thinner mats. It is also very sturdy, which makes it a lot better for balancing poses than the typical squishier yoga mats. You won’t be disappointed, especially if you live in a full, active household. I don’t do yoga but I do a lot of stretching along with some strength exercises I learned studying Kung Fu.

I am very happy with this mat. It is thick enough to use alone.

The recommendation of Manduka is to buy one of their towels to rest on the mat, but my yoga instructor tells me that the towels shift and move when hopping into uttanasana from high chaturanga, a very common vinyasa transition. That’s a lot of trouble and uncertainty for now investing close to $130 into mats and towels.

When I gave it to my mom, she was so excited. Her mood after yoga class was completely different however. Because the mat is thicker and softer/more cushioned (though not too squishy) my feet are “gripping” differently. Of course, this is a great feature for any kneeling/floor poses. However, I use it on carpet so it may stay put if used on bare floor. This is my 2nd Manduka black pro mat. Great cushion, mat stays in place, dries quickly after being washed, good size. This mat is heavy, soft, and appears to be made of very high quality material. However, I have had a lot of difficulty in removing the slippery film.

This mat is more sturdy and thick, thus padding the sensitive bony prominences. It is not slippery, though I wouldn’t say it is any better than other mats if you are doing a very sweaty (like sweat dripping off you into puddles) yoga–you still need a towel.

I’m amazed that it looks the same as when I bought it. I practice 90 minutes on it 4 or 5 times a week, mostly Ashtanga. I compared the Jade and Manduka side by side and my hands didn’t slip as much on the Jade due to the spongy texture which grips better. Plus the Jade is all natural and biodegrades. I’m also a big fan of its length. Maybe its weight is the only drawback if you’re carrying it on your back.

It also doesn’t slide around on hardwood floors the way some regular mats do. After using this and going back to a regular mat, the old mats feel like standing on a sheet of paper.

I can’t take it anymore! I slip all over the place and it’s getting dangerous. I have practiced yoga and am a hard-core exercise enthusiast since I was a teenager (over 10 years ago), and I am a personal trainer for the past 9 years, and this is the best mat I have ever owned or used. I purchased this yoga mat to use for home workouts – I practice yoga, and do high intensity interval training – and needed a new mat for cushion during intense ‘jumping’, and one that will not slide around.

Well-reviewed, used by my teachers and more experienced fellow students, well-cushioned, generously sized, but sadly, I have returned it. INFRARED GRILL.
